deep touched
today i saw this little masterpiece about love & death at the berlinale filmfest. at the huge friedrichstadtpalast with 1500 people inside, many of them were crying. it was such a great trip the whole movie. at the end there were 10min standing ovations for the filmmakers. everyone was deep touched by the story, great acting and such good music. the music is full of pain, you could cry the whole day. camerwork is well balanced and the picture quality is really good. the editing was a big surprise. it jumps between past and present without confusing the audience. it generates many dramatic moments. chapeau felix van groeningen & team.

Secretary Joyce Willecombe grows suspicious of two men boarding her train and is referred to 'Tough Willy' Calhoun, head of the Union Station police. Stop with the Shrieking already!
This film is really very good and full of suspense. A woman on a train notices strange behaviour from two men who have just boarded her train and the fact that one has a gun under his coat makes her decide to report to the train conductor. There follows a cliff-hanger of a movie involving a young, blind girl who has been kidnapped and will surely be killed by the psychotic kidnapper (Lyle Bettger) if she is not gotten to on time. There is only one jarring note - I don't think I am alone in wanting to strangle the blind girl every time she appears in the film. The director decided that she should shriek, scream and do a nails-scrapping-down-the-blackboard routine at every possible moment. This film merits more than the 7 I gave it for those who can overlook this irritating performance. Worth watching - you may want to keep the remote handy so that you can easily access the mute button.

Superb film about an unforgettable character of Spanish history .
Juan de Orduña reunited with Aurora Bautista in "Agustina De Aragón" 1950, Spanish production that recreates the siege and the battle of Zaragoza in the War of Independence of 1808 , against the French troops of Napoleon. Agustina is a woman who puts her life in service to her country and her people , and her attitude full importance in the development of the battle and subsequent events .
Agustina De Aragón was a character performed authentic document delivery of vital importance to Spain in this war . It should be noted that the film " Agustina De Aragon " was probably one of the more elaborate Spanish blockbusters of the moment. Distant technical mediocrity other Spanish films of the moment , this film presents a technical section that seems to have spared no expense : care sets (some scenes were shot in real settings even as the Cathedral of Zaragoza ) and correct special effects, costumes and photography. It's a pity the terrible sound editing , it is barely audible in scenes with music . The assembly is acceptable but not remarkable : melt greatly abused in black and medium shots , though it appears the odd close-up of the beautiful Aurora Bautista .
While the film is superb in terms of the bill technique itself is quite chaotic as the cast . Despite having fundamental names like Fernando Rey or lesser extent Aurora Bautista , the overbearing are constant but perhaps reproduce exactly what happened in 1808, as Spain was one of the few nations that strongly resisted the invasion Napoleonic . Aurora Bautista is beautiful in her character , but her performance lacks the charisma enough to be the heroine of the film.
In short, it is a very patriotic film of its time , which will please the lover of Spanish history , in particular the period of Napoleon's invasion , but from the standpoint of film can be long and repetitive. Yet it is a film must for Spanish classical theater enthusiasts .

No Happy Endings
Not widely seen for years, this newly restored Film-Noir has not disappointed Fans and is now considered a strong entry in the Genre. Mostly due to some effectively heavy indictments about Capitalism and Class envy. There is also included an out of wedlock pregnancy that is not just hinted at but is dead central to the plot . Add on top of that we have the Peeping Tom perversion that opens things up and things are not like a normal night at the Cinema.
It has strong, deeply flawed Characters caught in their own web of Adultery, Greed, and Lust. In some Film-Noirs there is a try to escape the confines of the City as the fated Couple makes way for wide open spaces and even though there is an attempt here to avoid persecution and prosecution, they still end up in a cave-like mining shaft that certainly will allow no breathing room.
This may not be as stylish as some Noirs but it makes up for it with a bleak Sociological tone and a sombre, desperate Couple. The tension never lets up and there are only very brief moments of reprieve. The Newlyweds obviously have no future, just like the Director (Losey) and Screenwriter (Trumbo) who were either Blacklisted at the time or soon to be. This is Art imitating Life, because there were few happy endings in the HUAC Witch Hunt.
